Practical tips and proven strategies for parents to support their child's Hifz journey from the comfort of home.

Helping your child memorise the Holy Quran is one of the greatest gifts you can give them in this life and the next. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "The one who reads the Quran and memorises it — he will be with the noble righteous scribes [in Paradise]." (Bukhari)

10 Practical Tips for Supporting Your Child's Hifz Journey

1. Create a Consistent Routine Choose a specific time each day for Quran memorisation — ideally after Fajr when the mind is fresh. Consistency is the key to long-term retention. 2. Start with Small Portions Begin with 3-5 lines per day. It's better to memorise a small amount solidly than a large amount poorly. Quality over quantity always. 3. Listen to Recitation Play Quran recitation in your home regularly. Children who grow up hearing the Quran find memorisation much easier. Sheikhs like Mishary Rashid Al-Afasy are excellent for children. 4. Make Revision a Priority In Hifz, revision (Muraja'ah) is as important as new memorisation. A common ratio is: learn 1 new page, revise 5 old pages. 5. Reward and Motivate Celebrate milestones with your child. When they complete a Juz, celebrate! This motivates continued effort. 6. Create an Islamic Environment Display the names of Allah and verses in your home. Reduce screen time during the Hifz period and replace it with beneficial Islamic content. 7. Make Du'a Together Du'a is the weapon of the believer. Make du'a with your child for Allah ﷻ to make the Quran easy for them and to bless their memory. 8. Choose the Right Teacher A qualified, patient Hifz teacher makes an enormous difference. At Quran Center UK, our Hifz supervisors have guided hundreds of children to completion. 9. Be Patient Hifz takes time — typically 3-5 years. There will be difficult days. Encouragement and patience from parents is crucial to keeping children motivated. 10. Connect the Quran to Daily Life Teach your child the meaning of what they're memorising. When they understand the words of Allah, memorisation becomes a deeply meaningful spiritual experience.
